How the internet changes how we communicate
English Speaking Lesson with Ringle Tutor
1) Original
I think the social media has influenced the way we communicate a lot. For example, my son sometimes, just he shows his annoyance when I am communicating with him because I usually focus on the reason why he is saying that or how, anyway I make him think a lot of things compared to when he communicate with his peers. I want him to speak more logically, I want him to give me more details but he just says very short words and he uses some kind of abbreviations that I cannot understand. I can understand a little because I did the same things with my parents but I think at least I provided my reasons or my details with my parents.
1) Paraphrase
Social media has had a major impact on the way we communicate. My son sometimes only wants to speak in short sentences. I always encourage him to use full sentences with more detail. He gets annoyed when I ask him to give more careful thought when speaking, he would rather speak using abbreviations and slang.
2) Original
I think I can admit that abbreviations, for the short time, for example, for the teenagers, or young generations, when they communicate with their peers, I cannot read it. When people try to communicate with people whose generation is broad, then we should communicate with full text. When I had a glance at the first sentence of the article, I didn’t understand, what it meant. I had some text chats with my son and he taught me some abbreviations, but it is really difficult to understand and especially for formal work or places, we should not use those.
2) Paraphrase
Abbreviations can be useful but I find it very difficult to understand when people use too many of them. I believe it is important to communicate with full sentences and thoughts to avoid miscommunication. My son has tried to teach me some abbreviations but it is very confusing.
3) Vocabulary
① abbreviation – a shortened form of a word or phrase.
(ex) “USA” is an abbreviation for the United States of America.
② annoyed – slightly angry
(ex) She was annoyed by the constant noise coming from the construction site.
③ miscommunication – failure to communicate ideas or intentions successfully
(ex) The error was due to a miscommunication between the team members.
