Ringle Review – Book Review: “The Metamorphosis”

Tutor’s opinions and questions

Family neglect

Perhaps, you can see Kafka’s work as a cautionary tale in family neglect.
Kafka was a child of a father who neglected him and a mother who was busy doing other things. Perhaps, ‘The Metamorphosis’ is sort of a symbol for that.
And he wrote the novel at a time where there was antisemitism the right before War II. Some people think that cockroach is actually a symbol for Jewish people living in Europe at the time.
Other people just think Kafka was someone that was neglected throughout his whole life. So some people just think that the insect is a symbol for Kafka’s life himself.
